Because today is Earth Day, and with more and more wine drinkers looking for wines that are organic, we're taking this opportunity to toast our 'Green' wines.
So, what do the terms "green" and "organic" mean? The simple answer is that for a wine to be labeled specifically as "organic wine", the grapes have to be grown in a certified organic vineyard and there can be no added sulfites. The term 'green' describes a broad range of winemaking methods and practices that are environmentally-friendly; from sustainable viticulture to growing grapes organically to vinting organic wines. Organic grapes are grown without the use of pesticides, chemical fertilizers or synthetic chemicals of any kind.
There are many vineyards, like Hall Vineyards, that practice sustainable viticulture, where water usage is reduced, healthy soil is built and the surrounding wildlife is maintained. The focus is not just on producing quality wines, but farming with a concern for the surrounding environment and improving environmental practices throughout all winery operations.
