While I work for a company that sells wine I am, by no means, a wine connoisseur. I just want a good, affordable wine. Impressing my friends with great wine picks is probably on the list too.
I had my share of boxed wine in college. Terribly cheap, terrible wine. Then years ago I discovered little plastic faux-barrels with spouts that held four bottles and promised to keep the wine fresh for several months. Grown-up boxed wine, I thought. What a great idea “for just one more glass.” Disappointment at first sip! I could only drink it if I had already had way too much wine before the “one more glass.” So when our samples of Block Party boxed wine arrived at the office, I was cautious but optimistic.
With empty glasses full of anticipation, we opened the box of Cabernet Sauvignon. The familiar aromas filled the air and ruby colored liquid spilled out of the spout into my glass. No time to let it breath! I had to see for myself if there could be truth to the urban legend of “good” boxed wines. “Wow.” Then some more sipping “This is good. Not just for boxed wine. It’s just…good.” Another glass please. I’ll admit, I’m a red wine fan though. So my true test would be, is the Chardonnay just as delicious?
Surrounded by yogurts and take out containers, the box of Chardonnay
took up residence in our office fridge over night to chill for its next-day debut. With our canary yellow Chardonnay box perched on our front table, our CEO Bryan poured frosty, golden glasses. After a long day, I can’t turn down wine – even if it’s Chardonnay – my less than favorite varietal. Surprise at first sip! “Mmmm. I love it!” Our little box that could, may have just made a Chardonnay drinker out of me yet. Fresh. Crisp. Clean. Impressed is an understatement. I had a few more glasses for good measure!
With the convenient packaging and grab-n-go handle, they’ll be great to bring as unique hostess gift or holiday wine gift. One box holds 2 bottles, or 12 glasses - now that's a party! I’ll be picking up a few for myself as well; from first sip to “just one more glass” I
know I’ll be drinking great wine. Great boxed wine. Urban legend no longer.
Researching the boxed wines further, I realized there is a lot more to our Block Party duo than just great taste and cute packing. See what I found >>
This is a great article and thanks for writing. I too love wine (red is also my favorite) but am far from a connoisseur so I was excited to read about the great boxed wines and the length of time they will continue to be fresh. I will keep this site bookmarked for future references and to try some of your wine suggestions.
Regards, Louise
